New hip nail aims to get patients walking faster after fracture
NCT ID NCT06024304
First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This pilot study is testing whether a dual-screw nail (InterTAN) helps people recover better after a broken hip than a standard single-screw nail (TFNA). Thirty adults with unstable hip fractures will be randomly assigned to receive one of the two devices during surgery. The researchers will track pain, physical function, and walking ability over time to see which approach leads to a quicker return to normal activities.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Surgical fixation devices (Synthes TFNA single-screw nail vs Smith and Nephew Trigen InterTAN dual-screw nail)
- What this could lead to
- If the InterTAN device proves better, it could lead to less pain, faster return to walking, and quicker recovery after hip fracture surgery.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very small pilot study with only 30 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. It is designed to gather data for a larger trial, not to prove effectiveness yet.
