Can cycling plus a gentle brain zap ease fibromyalgia pain?
NCT ID NCT07323199
First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether combining high-intensity interval training (HIIT) with a gentle brain stimulation technique called tDCS can reduce pain, fatigue, and sleep problems in women with fibromyalgia. Forty women will be assigned to HIIT plus real tDCS, HIIT plus a sham device, or HIIT alone. The goal is to see if the combination works better than exercise alone for managing symptoms.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could point toward a more effective, drug-free way to reduce pain and fatigue in women with fibromyalgia.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with only 40 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The sham group helps test if the brain stimulation adds real benefit beyond exercise alone.
