New oxygen method may speed recovery from High-Altitude lung condition

NCT ID NCT07536477

First seen May 06, 2026 · Last updated May 06, 2026

Summary

This study tests if a high-flow nasal cannula (a device that delivers warm, moist oxygen) works better than standard oxygen therapy for people with high-altitude pulmonary edema (fluid in the lungs caused by rapid ascent to high altitudes). Researchers will enroll 200 adults who develop symptoms within 7 days of reaching altitudes above 2,500 meters. The main goal is to see how quickly patients can stop needing extra oxygen, and they will also track treatment failures and complications.
