Scientists track pregnant women in thin air to solve mystery of High-Altitude complications

NCT ID NCT07312227

Summary

This study aims to understand why pregnant women living at very high altitudes in Bolivia are at risk for serious complications like preeclampsia and high blood pressure in the lungs. Researchers will follow 20 women, comparing healthy pregnancies to those with complications, to see how the low oxygen affects the heart and baby's growth. They will perform heart ultrasounds and measure certain chemicals in the blood to learn how the body adapts.
