New oxygen technique could speed ventilator weaning for tracheostomy patients
NCT ID NCT07559591
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a special high-flow oxygen method through a tracheostomy tube can help critically ill patients come off a breathing machine faster. About 88 adults with a tracheostomy who are ready to try breathing on their own will be randomly assigned to receive either the new oxygen method or standard care. The main goal is to see if a larger study is possible, but researchers will also track how many days patients are free from the ventilator.
