NCT ID NCT04478292
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a drug called sodium thiosulfate can protect the hearing of children undergoing chemotherapy for hepatoblastoma, a rare liver cancer. About 330 children will be randomly assigned to receive either the hearing-protection drug or a placebo alongside their standard chemo. The goal is to see if it reduces hearing loss without affecting cancer treatment success.

What this could lead to
If it works, this could reduce hearing loss in children undergoing chemotherapy for hepatoblastoma, improving their quality of life.
What could go wrong
This is a phase 3 trial, but results may not confirm benefit. The treatment adds another drug, which could cause side effects or not protect hearing as hoped.
