Can a simple blood test predict rebleeding in gut vessel disease?

NCT ID NCT07183995

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study will check 55 adults with gastrointestinal angiodysplasia—abnormal blood vessels in the gut that can cause bleeding—for related blood disorders, especially problems with von Willebrand factor, a protein that helps blood clot. Researchers want to see if low levels of this protein can predict who will bleed again or die in the hospital. Participants will undergo standard tests like endoscopy, colonoscopy, and blood work. The study does not test any new treatment.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could help doctors better predict which patients with GI angiodysplasia are at risk of rebleeding, potentially guiding more personalized monitoring or treatment.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study with only 55 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. It aims to find associations, not test a treatment, so it won't directly change care.
