Heated chemo during surgery may fight ovarian cancer return

NCT ID NCT01970722

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This early-phase trial tests whether giving heated chemotherapy directly into the abdomen during surgery can help prevent cancer from coming back in people with advanced ovarian, fallopian tube, uterine, or peritoneal cancer. About 40 participants will receive the heated chemo during surgery, and some may also get unheated chemo afterward. The main goal is to check for side effects and see how well the treatment is tolerated.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Carboplatin and cisplatin (chemotherapy drugs)
What this could lead to
If it works, this approach could offer a way to lower the risk of cancer coming back in patients with advanced or recurrent gynecologic cancers.
What could go wrong
This is an early phase 1 trial with only 40 participants, so safety and effectiveness are not yet proven. The heated chemotherapy may cause side effects like toxicity or complications from surgery.
