New braces wire may straighten teeth faster and with less pain
NCT ID NCT07176871
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether heat-activated nickel-titanium (HANT) archwires straighten teeth better than conventional nickel-titanium wires in people with braces. Fifty-two patients aged 16 to 25 with crowded upper front teeth were randomly assigned to one wire type. Researchers measured how quickly teeth aligned over 6 months, checked root and bone health with 3D scans, and recorded pain levels. The goal was to see if HANT wires offer a more efficient and comfortable orthodontic experience.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
heat-activated nickel-titanium (HANT) archwires
What this could lead to
If HANT wires prove more effective, they could become a standard option for faster, more comfortable teeth straightening in braces.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed trial with only 52 patients, so results may not apply to everyone. The difference between wire types might be small or not clinically meaningful.
