3D scans may save your gums during invisible braces treatment
NCT ID NCT07513792
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether using 3D imaging (CBCT) to plan clear aligner treatment can lower the chance of gum recession. Forty adults who want to widen their dental arches will be randomly assigned to either 3D-guided or standard 2D planning. Researchers will track gum health, bone changes, and airway size over the course of treatment to see if the advanced imaging makes a difference.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
3D CBCT-guided orthodontic treatment planning with clear aligners
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that using 3D imaging for planning aligner treatment reduces the risk of gum recession and other periodontal problems.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 40 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The 3D imaging may not provide significant benefits over standard planning.
