Massive data dive: can a common sedative prevent Post-Surgery confusion?
NCT ID NCT07249164
Summary
This study looked back at the health records of over 400,000 adults who had heart surgery to see if receiving a specific sedative (dexmedetomidine) around the time of their operation was linked to better recovery. Researchers compared patients who got the drug to those who did not, checking for complications like post-surgery confusion (delirium), death, kidney problems, and infections within 30 days. The goal is to use this real-world information to help doctors make better decisions about sedation during routine heart surgery care.
