New shot before heart surgery could slash painkiller need

NCT ID NCT04333095

Summary

This study tested if giving a long-acting numbing medicine before making the chest incision for heart surgery helps reduce pain afterward. Researchers compared this approach to a placebo in 70 patients to see if it lowered pain scores and reduced the need for strong opioid painkillers in the first 72 hours after surgery. The goal was to find a safer way to manage post-surgery pain.
