Heart surgery anesthesia showdown: can one drug cut deadly complications?

Summary
This large study aims to find out if using the inhaled anesthetic desflurane is better than the intravenous drug propofol at protecting the heart during bypass surgery. It will enroll over 3,500 adults having planned heart bypass operations. The main goal is to see which method leads to fewer serious heart problems and deaths in the first month after surgery.
