Heartbeat clues may improve oxygen delivery in breathing machines

NCT ID NCT07518862

First seen May 03, 2026 · Last updated May 03, 2026

Summary

This study looks at whether heart rate variability—natural changes in time between heartbeats—can signal when a patient on high-flow oxygen needs a flow adjustment. Researchers will slowly lower the oxygen flow in 20 adults already on this therapy and watch for changes in heart rate and breathing. The goal is to find a better way to set oxygen levels, avoiding both too little support and unnecessary high flow.
