New blood thinner tested to make heart procedures safer

NCT ID NCT02505399

Summary

This study tested whether a newer blood-thinning drug (ticagrelor) works better than a standard one (clopidogrel) during a procedure to clear severely hardened heart arteries. Researchers enrolled 180 patients with stable heart disease to see if the newer drug reduces heart muscle damage after the procedure. The goal was to find a safer medication approach for this common but delicate heart operation.
