Scientists probe tiny power plants in failing hearts

NCT ID NCT05770349

Summary

This study aims to understand if problems with tiny energy-producing parts inside heart cells, called mitochondria, are linked to how heart failure progresses. Researchers will enroll 45-60 patients with heart failure who are scheduled for heart bypass surgery. They will take small tissue and blood samples during the surgery to examine the mitochondria and look for signs of their dysfunction, hoping to connect these findings to patients' health outcomes.
