Hearing aids tested to ease chemotherapy side effect
NCT ID NCT05936034
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether hearing aids can improve quality of life in cancer patients who develop hearing loss from platinum-based chemotherapy. Fifty-two adults currently on such chemotherapy and with confirmed hearing loss will be randomly assigned to receive a hearing aid or standard care. Their quality of life, hearing, and tinnitus will be measured over six months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
hearing aid
What this could lead to
If it works, this could show that hearing aids meaningfully improve quality of life for cancer patients with chemotherapy-induced hearing loss.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 52 participants. The benefit may be modest or not apply to all patients, and hearing aids may not be well-tolerated.
