Lung cancer combo trial halted early – only 5 patients enrolled

NCT ID NCT05141357

First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated Jun 24, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This phase 2 study tested a combination of two drugs—HBI-8000 (tucidinostat) and pembrolizumab (Keytruda)—in people with advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer whose tumors have a specific protein marker (PD-L1). The goal was to see if the combination was safe and effective. However, the trial was terminated early and only enrolled 5 participants, so we have very limited information about how well it works or what side effects may occur.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

HBI-8000 (tucidinostat) combined with pembrolizumab (Keytruda)

What this could lead to

If it worked, this combination might offer a new treatment option for people with advanced lung cancer whose tumors have a certain protein marker.

What could go wrong

The trial was terminated early with only 5 participants, so there is very little data. It is unclear if the combination is safe or effective, and it may not work as hoped.
