Light and peel combo may turn back the clock on aging hands
NCT ID NCT04485091
First seen Jul 29, 2026 · Last updated Jul 30, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests whether combining a 20% trichloroacetic acid (TCA) chemical peel with LED light therapy (photobiomodulation) can improve signs of sun damage on the hands better than the peel alone. Forty-two adults with mild-to-moderate skin aging will receive four monthly treatments. Researchers will compare changes in fine wrinkles, coarse wrinkles, and skin discoloration using standardized photos and expert ratings.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- a combination of 20% trichloroacetic acid (TCA) chemical peel and 660nm LED photobiomodulation (PBM) light therapy
- What this could lead to
- If the combination works better than the peel alone, it could offer a more effective, non-surgical option for rejuvenating sun-damaged skin on the hands.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-phase trial with only 42 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The treatment involves a chemical peel, which can cause pain, redness, and peeling.
