Hammock therapy for preemies: a cozy idea tested in the NICU
NCT ID NCT06209060
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether placing preterm babies in a soft cloth hammock inside their incubator, along with gentle nesting, can improve their comfort and vital signs like heart rate and oxygen levels. Researchers will compare these babies to those receiving standard care. The goal is to find a simple, non-medication way to reduce stress for the tiniest patients.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
hammock positioning and nesting (behavioral intervention)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, drug-free way to reduce stress and improve comfort for preterm babies in the NICU.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 72 babies. Results may not apply to all preterm infants, and the benefits may be modest or not statistically significant.
