Could a triple therapy beat back tough liver cancer?

NCT ID NCT06881433

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This completed study tested whether adding a liver-directed chemotherapy infusion (HAIC) to standard immunotherapy and anti-angiogenesis drugs improves outcomes for people with advanced liver cancer that has spread into the portal vein. Over 1,600 participants were included. The goal was to see if the triple combination extends survival and shrinks tumors more than the standard two-drug approach.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy (HAIC) added to immune checkpoint inhibitors and anti-VEGF drugs

What this could lead to

If successful, adding HAIC could improve survival and tumor shrinkage for people with advanced liver cancer that has spread into the portal vein.

What could go wrong

This is a completed study, but results are not yet published. Adding HAIC may increase side effects without clear benefit, and the findings may not apply to all patients.
