First seen Feb 16, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 20 times

Summary

This study looks at whether taking probiotics (good bacteria) for 4 weeks, along with a personalized diet, can improve gut health and running performance in marathon runners. 27 experienced male runners will be randomly assigned to receive either probiotics or a placebo. Researchers will measure their oxygen use during treadmill tests, analyze their gut bacteria, and check for inflammation and gut barrier markers in blood and stool samples.
