Poop pills for cancer? trial tests gut transplant to supercharge immune therapy

NCT ID NCT04758507

Summary

This study tested whether a 'gut bacteria transplant' could help patients with advanced kidney cancer respond better to immunotherapy drugs. Fifty patients received either a real transplant of healthy gut bacteria from donors or a placebo, alongside their standard cancer treatment. Researchers measured if the transplant helped stop cancer progression and improved survival over one year.
