Scientists trace fiber to find Gut's power source in IBD

NCT ID NCT07300553

Summary

This study aims to understand how the community of bacteria in our gut (the microbiota) influences the energy levels of our immune cells, particularly in people with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) like Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Researchers will compare 45 healthy adults and adults with IBD in remission by giving them a special labeled fiber and taking blood, urine, and stool samples. The goal is to map how gut bacteria process food and whether this process is different in IBD, which could reveal new clues about the disease.
