Could your own blood help heal receding gums?
NCT ID NCT07624591
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This trial tests whether adding a healing material made from the patient's own blood (Advanced Platelet-Rich Fibrin, or A-PRF) to standard gum surgery helps cover exposed tooth roots better than surgery alone. Eleven adults with gum recession will receive either the combined treatment or standard surgery. Researchers will measure root coverage and gum thickness over six months to see if the blood-based material improves healing and appearance.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Advanced Platelet-Rich Fibrin (A-PRF) membrane made from the patient's own blood
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a better way to treat receding gums using the patient's own blood, improving root coverage and gum thickness without extra drugs.
What could go wrong
This is a very small early trial with only 11 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The added benefit of A-PRF over standard surgery alone is uncertain.
