Gum graft may boost implant infection treatment

NCT ID NCT06305000

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether adding a gum graft to standard deep cleaning helps treat peri-implant mucositis, a common inflammation around dental implants. Researchers will compare four groups of 16 people each: healthy implants, inflamed implants with enough gum tissue, inflamed implants with thin gum tissue getting only cleaning, and inflamed implants with thin gum tissue getting both cleaning and a graft. They will measure gum health and inflammatory markers over 7 months.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
free gingival graft (gum tissue graft)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could show that adding a gum graft improves treatment for inflammation around dental implants, potentially reducing the need for more invasive procedures.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 48 people. The graft is a surgical procedure with risks like pain, bleeding, or graft failure. Results may not apply to all patients.
