New gum cleaning technique tested for better periodontitis treatment

NCT ID NCT07286916

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests a new gum cleaning method called guided biofilm therapy (GBT) against standard deep cleaning for people with gum disease (periodontitis). 18 adults will receive either GBT or standard treatment, and researchers will measure gum pocket depth, bleeding, and biomarkers in gum fluid after 1 and 3 months. The goal is to see if GBT leads to better gum healing.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Guided Biofilm Therapy (Airflow Prophylaxis Master device with erythritol powder)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a more effective and comfortable way to treat gum disease, potentially improving long-term gum health.
What could go wrong
This is a very small early trial with only 18 people, so results may not apply to everyone. The treatment is compared to standard care, and the benefits may be modest.
