Grid radiation may boost sarcoma treatment before surgery

NCT ID NCT06073067

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This pilot study tests a special radiation technique called GRID therapy given before standard radiation and surgery for people with soft tissue sarcoma in their arms or legs. The goal is to see if GRID can safely increase the radiation dose to the tumor without causing more wound problems after surgery. Twenty adults with high-risk sarcoma will receive one GRID treatment, then standard radiation, then surgery. Researchers will track wound complications and how much of the tumor is killed.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

GRID radiation therapy

What this could lead to

If successful, this could improve tumor shrinkage before surgery without increasing wound complications, potentially leading to better outcomes for sarcoma patients.

What could go wrong

This is a very small pilot study (20 people) with no control group, so results may not be generalizable. The main risk is wound complications after surgery.
