New skin patch could ease nausea for stem cell transplant patients

NCT ID NCT04150614

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether a granisetron skin patch works better than ondansetron pills for preventing nausea and vomiting in people getting chemotherapy before a stem cell transplant. About 90 patients will be enrolled and randomly assigned to one of the two treatments. The goal is to see which approach helps more patients avoid vomiting and the need for extra medication during the first 24 hours after chemotherapy.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

granisetron transdermal patch

What this could lead to

If the patch works better, it could offer a more convenient and effective way to control nausea and vomiting during stem cell transplant preparation.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase study with only 90 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The patch may not be more effective than the standard pill, and side effects are possible.
