No bone graft needed? new dental implant technique tested

NCT ID NCT07424742

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests a new, less invasive way to place dental implants in the upper jaw when there isn't enough bone. Instead of using a bone graft, the surgeon gently lifts the sinus membrane and places the implant at the same time. The goal is to see if new bone grows around the implant and if the implant stays secure over time. The trial will include 20 adults with missing upper back teeth and limited bone height.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Procedure: graftless transcrestal sinus membrane elevation with simultaneous dental implant placement

What this could lead to

If successful, this could offer a simpler, less invasive dental implant option for people with low bone in the upper jaw, avoiding the need for bone grafts.

What could go wrong

This is a very small early trial with only 20 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The procedure may fail to form enough new bone or implants may not stay stable.
