One-Shot hope: drug may shield fertility in women facing stem cell transplant
NCT ID NCT07552480
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a single injection of goserelin, given just before a stem cell transplant, can help preserve ovarian function in women with blood cancers. The trial will enroll 64 women aged 14-50 and measure menstrual recovery six months after transplant. If successful, it could reduce the risk of early menopause and infertility caused by the transplant conditioning regimen.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
goserelin
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a way to protect fertility and ovarian function in women who need a stem cell transplant for blood cancer.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 64 participants. It may not show a clear benefit, and goserelin could cause side effects like hot flashes or mood changes.
