Penicillin break: major trial tests if kids with mild RHD can stop lifelong antibiotics

Summary
This study tests whether children and teens with mild rheumatic heart disease can safely stop taking monthly penicillin shots or pills. About 922 participants aged 5-20 who have already taken penicillin for at least 2 years will be randomly assigned to either continue or stop the medication. Researchers will check after 2 years if their heart condition has worsened using ultrasound.
