New study tracks blood sugar swings in cancer patients with diabetes
NCT ID NCT07180251
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study looks at how daily ups and downs in blood sugar affect people who have both gastrointestinal cancer and diabetes after surgery. Researchers will track 260 participants to see if these changes impact self-care, blood sugar control, emotional distress, fatigue, and quality of life. In the second phase, some participants will try an 8-week education program using a continuous glucose monitor to help them better manage their health.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
CARE program (education with continuous glucose monitoring)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a better way to help people manage both diabetes and recovery after GI cancer surgery, improving their daily life and emotional well-being.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage study with no control group for the main analysis, so results may not apply broadly. The intervention is behavioral, so benefits may vary by individual.
