New hope for stomach and bowel cancers: experimental drug Rina-S enters Mid-Stage trial

NCT ID NCT07539311

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This Phase 2 trial is testing a new drug called Rina-S (rinatabart sesutecan) in about 160 people with advanced gastrointestinal cancers that have spread or cannot be removed. The drug is given alone through an IV, and everyone receives it—no placebo. The study will check if the drug shrinks tumors and how long that effect lasts, while also monitoring side effects. Participants may continue treatment as long as their cancer does not worsen and side effects are manageable.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Rina-S (rinatabart sesutecan)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a new treatment option for advanced gastrointestinal cancers that have not responded to other therapies.

What could go wrong

This is an early Phase 2 trial with a small number of participants, so results may not confirm effectiveness. Side effects are possible, and the drug may not work for all cancer types studied.
