NCT ID NCT03664531
First seen Apr 07, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 9 times
Summary
This study looked at whether gluten or whole wheat (which contains gluten plus other proteins) causes stomach and bowel symptoms in people with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). 29 adults who already felt better on a gluten-free diet were given special bars containing either purified gluten, whole wheat, or a gluten-free dummy bar. Researchers tracked who had a significant worsening of symptoms to see which ingredient was the real trigger.
