Glue beats stitches? new study tests faster circumcision recovery

NCT ID NCT06487494

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This pilot study tested whether using a medical glue (2-octyl cyanoacrylate) with just a few stitches is as good as the usual method of continuous stitching for closing wounds after adult circumcision. Twenty men were randomly assigned to one of the two closure methods. Researchers measured pain, healing appearance, complications, and surgery time to see if the glue approach is a viable alternative.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

2-octyl cyanoacrylate glue (a medical adhesive used to close wounds)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a faster, less painful option for wound closure after adult circumcision.

What could go wrong

This is a very small pilot study with only 20 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The glue might not hold as well as stitches, leading to more complications.
