Glaucoma supplement trial halted early – no clear results
NCT ID NCT04784234
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether a daily dietary supplement called GlaucoCetin could improve vision in people with open-angle glaucoma who already had some vision loss. Only 12 participants were enrolled before the trial was terminated early. The supplement contained a mix of ingredients thought to protect optic nerve cells, but because the study stopped, we don't have reliable data on whether it helped.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
GlaucoCetin (a dietary supplement containing curcumin, N-acetyl cysteine, ginkgo biloba, alpha-lipoic acid, citicoline, grape seed extract, green tea extract, coenzyme Q10, and other ingredients)
What this could lead to
If it had worked, GlaucoCetin might have pointed toward a way to slow vision loss in glaucoma by protecting optic nerve cells.
What could go wrong
The trial was terminated early with only 12 participants, so no reliable conclusions can be drawn. Dietary supplements often fail to show clear benefits in rigorous studies.
