This study tests whether a ginkgo biloba extract (EGb761) can slow or prevent diabetic retinopathy, an eye disease caused by diabetes. About 200 adults with long-standing diabetes will take either ginkgo or standard treatment for 2 years. Researchers will measure changes in eye blood vessels and overall health to see if the supplement helps control the disease.
