Could 8 weeks of steroids be enough? new trial aims to cut treatment time for GCA

NCT ID NCT06833411

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether people with giant cell arteritis (GCA) can safely take steroids for only 8 weeks instead of the usual 26 weeks when also using the drug tocilizumab. About 178 participants will be randomly assigned to one of two treatment lengths. The goal is to see if the shorter course prevents relapses just as well while reducing steroid-related side effects.
