Could a geriatric check-up ease cancer treatment for seniors?
NCT ID NCT07225855
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a special geriatric assessment (PGA) and tailored support can reduce side effects and improve quality of life for older adults (60+) undergoing radiation for head and neck cancer, and for their family caregivers. About 36 participants will receive either usual care or the PGA-based plan. The goal is to see if more structured support helps manage treatment-related problems better than standard care.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Practical Geriatric Assessment (PGA) and supportive care referrals
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could lead to a better way to manage treatment side effects and improve quality of life for older cancer patients and their family caregivers.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial (36 participants) testing a supportive care approach, not a new drug. It may not show a clear benefit over usual care, and results may not apply to all older patients.
