Scientists hunt for genetic clues to stop wasting in pancreatic cancer

NCT ID NCT05376592

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study is looking for genetic differences that may explain why many people with pancreatic cancer develop severe muscle wasting (cachexia). Researchers will collect blood samples from 100 patients to analyze their DNA. The goal is to find markers that could lead to earlier detection and better treatments for this serious condition.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this research could help identify genetic markers that predict cancer cachexia, leading to earlier diagnosis and better treatments for this serious complication.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It is small (100 participants) and early-stage, so findings may not apply to all patients or lead directly to new therapies.
