NIH launches major genetic study to unlock health disparities in black communities

NCT ID NCT01316783

Summary

This study aims to understand why African diaspora populations have higher rates of obesity, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease by examining their genetic makeup. Researchers will collect health information and blood samples from about 1,100 adults who identify as African American, Afro-Caribbean, or migrants from sub-Saharan Africa. No treatment is provided—this is purely a research study to identify genetic factors that might contribute to these common health conditions.
