Could a gene nearby AATD weaken your immune system?
NCT ID NCT07135427
First seen Nov 10, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 29 times
Summary
This study looks at whether people with a genetic mutation that causes alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AATD) also have changes in nearby genes that might weaken their immune system and lead to more lung infections. Researchers will compare immune responses to a pneumonia vaccine in 30 adults who have one abnormal copy of the SERPINA1 gene—some with frequent COPD flare-ups and some without. The goal is to better understand why some patients get more infections, not to test a new treatment.
