Could a hidden gene flaw make lung patients more prone to infections?

NCT ID NCT07135427

First seen Nov 10, 2025 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 28 times

Summary

This study aims to find out if people with alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AATD) also have nearby gene changes that weaken their immune system and lead to more lung infections. Researchers will compare immune responses to a pneumonia vaccine in 30 adults who have one abnormal AATD gene and either no COPD flare-ups or two or more in the past year. The study does not test a new treatment but gathers information to better understand infection risk in this condition.
