New study aims to increase genetic testing for pancreatic cancer in those with family history
NCT ID NCT06744595
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This pilot study at Mayo Clinic tests whether personalized education and genetic counseling can increase genetic testing in people with a first-degree relative who had pancreatic cancer. About 50 participants will receive tailored information and counseling. The goal is to see if this helps more people follow national guidelines for genetic testing, which could lead to earlier detection.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Genetic testing for cancer risk
What this could lead to
If successful, this approach could help more at-risk people get genetic testing and earlier screening for pancreatic cancer.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot study (50 people) at one clinic, so results may not apply broadly. It tests education and counseling, not a new treatment.
