Talking computer aims to close genetic testing gap for cancer patients

NCT ID NCT06422455

First seen Mar 22, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This study tests whether a computer-generated character (called PERLA) can help cancer patients learn about genetic testing as well as a human counselor does. The goal is to make genetic testing easier to access for people who often miss out, like those in rural areas or who speak Spanish. About 800 patients with certain cancers (like breast, ovarian, or pancreatic) will take part. Researchers will compare how many people actually get tested after talking to the computer versus a human.
