First seen Mar 18, 2026 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 6 times
Summary
This study explored whether certain genes make children more likely to develop severe cavities. Researchers compared 390 young patients with many cavities to cavity-free young adults, looking for mutations in genes that affect tooth enamel. The goal was to find genetic factors that could explain why some kids get so many cavities, which could change how we prevent and treat tooth decay.
