Scientists test Gene-Edited cells to fight HIV

NCT ID NCT02500849

Summary

This early-stage study is testing whether genetically modified stem cells are safe and can take hold in people with HIV. Researchers collect a patient's own blood stem cells, modify them in a lab to potentially resist HIV, and then return them after mild chemotherapy. The goal is to see if these modified cells can help the immune system better control the virus long-term.
