Heart scan bonus: cancer PET may spot inflammation
NCT ID NCT06467968
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study adds a heart-focused PET scan to a standard cancer imaging test (Gallium-68-DOTATOC) in 99 adults with neuroendocrine tumors. The goal is to see if the scan can detect heart inflammation linked to age and cardiovascular risk factors. Researchers will also compare scan results with blood markers of heart stress. This is an observational study, not a treatment trial.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Gallium-68-DOTATOC (a radioactive tracer used in PET imaging)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a new way to detect heart inflammation early using a standard cancer scan, without extra radiation or procedures.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early observational study (99 people) and only looks for correlations, not a treatment. The findings may not apply to everyone or lead to a clear diagnostic tool.
