Summary
Levodopa, the main treatment for Parkinson's disease, must be absorbed from the gut to reach the brain. A natural enzyme in the stomach lining, called dopamine decarboxylase, can break down levodopa before it gets there. This trial studies 40 people with Parkinson's who are already taking levodopa and have had stomach biopsies. Researchers will measure enzyme levels in those biopsies and track how quickly levodopa enters the blood and how well it controls movement symptoms. The goal is to understand why levodopa works better in some people than others, which could guide more personalized treatment.
